Booking & Payment

How and when do I pay the balance?

If you book directly with us through our website, payment will be due at the time of booking. Until payment has been made, the reservation will remain tentative and will be bookable by other guests.

Do you do refunds?

Yes - we understand that your plans may change, so we will happily offer you a 100% refund up to 30 days before your check-in date. After this date, if we can't re-let the lodge, then we can only offer a 25% refund, payable on the arrival date of your booking.

If you've made a booking through another booking platform, we cannot guarantee that their policies will align with ours, so please always check with us beforehand.

What are the benefits of booking directly?

Even though we are listed on Airbnb, Booking.com, VRBO and Tripadvisor, it will always be ~15% cheaper to book directly through this website.

Do I need to leave a damage deposit?

No - we acknowledge that accidents do happen and some glasses, plates etc. will get chipped or broken during your stay. We're insured for major damage, so we won't chase you for it, but we do rely on our guests' honesty and would expect a voluntary contribution if something does get damaged during your stay.

Are there any additional fees or taxes?

Your booking rate includes VAT, aside from this there are no additional fees.

Is there a minimum stay length?

The minimum stay is 3 nights, however we would encourage guests to stay longer, given the remoteness of the property.

Arrival & Getting Here

What is the check-in and check-out time?

Check-in is from 5pm on your arrival day, and check-out is by 10am on your departure day.

If there are no guests arriving on the same day you leave, we may be able to accommodate a late check-out time, so please contact us in advance. An early check-in can be negotiated in the same way.

How do I get there and is satnav reliable?

Yes - simply type Lagafater into Google or Apple Maps and it'll take you to the door. For more information, we have more information here.

Is there parking available at the lodge?

Yes, there is plenty of space for parking both at the front of the house and at the back.

The Lodge & Facilities

How many bedrooms does the lodge have?

There are nine bedrooms upstairs, one cot room and one downstairs bedroom. For more information on the layout of the rooms, take a look at our gallery.

What is the maximum occupancy of the lodge?

The Lodge sleeps 15, not including infants in cots. Additional overnight occupancy is prohibited, although campervans and tents may be allowed. Please contact us for details.

Can we have day visitors?

Yes, day visitors are fine.

Is the lodge child-friendly?

Yes! We have a cot room, a highchair, and children's books and toys. It's a wonderful place for kids to explore, though do bear in mind the Lodge is an old building with some stairs, so younger children should be supervised.

Are bed linens and towels provided?

Yes, all bed linen and towels are provided.

Is the kitchen fully equipped?

Yes, the kitchen is fully equipped. Take a look at our amenities page for the full list.

Is there a fireplace or wood-burning stove in the lodge?

Yes, the living room has a wood-burning stove with plenty of homegrown, seasoned logs available for you during your stay.

Is there a TV/streaming service?

Yes! We have a smart TV in the drawing room, but you will need your own logins to be able to use it, so please bring your usernames and passwords with you. We do have a large DVD collection as well, so there's plenty to entertain.

Are there laundry facilities available?

Yes - there is a washing machine, tumble dryer and a laundry hanging-rail available in the lodge.

Is there a hot tub, sauna, or pool?

We don't yet have the facilities to operate a hot tub or sauna, however our baths are 6 feet long, so larger than everyday baths. For the brave, there are plenty of wild swimming spots throughout the estate.

Is the lodge suitable for guests with mobility issues or limited stairs?

The Lodge is very old (built in 1846) and was unfortunately not built with mobility in mind. We have a downstairs single bedroom and a loo downstairs, but at the moment all our washing facilities are upstairs, so will require some mobility.

Connectivity

Is Wi-Fi available in the lodge?

Yes - we have super fast Starlink wifi, available throughout the lodge.

Is there mobile phone signal?

We are proud to say that Lagafater is one of the few spots left that is completely signal free. We do have Wi-Fi, if you need it, but we would always recommend trying to switch off and enjoying your precious time away from the outside world.

Food & Local Area

Is there food delivery available?

Yes - both ASDA and Morrisons do a food delivery service right to the door, but please make sure to book a time slot for after you arrive, as we cannot guarantee that someone will be here to receive it.

Where's the nearest supermarket, petrol station, or town?

One of the delights of staying at Lagafater is our rural location. We are incredibly remote, but you can be in Stranraer within 40 minutes. We would strongly advise organising a food delivery from either Morrisons or ASDA to coincide with your arrival, as you won't want to head out again for food once you've made the journey.

What's the nearest hospital or GP, in case of emergency?

Stranraer has an A&E department and Glenluce Surgery is 45 minutes away - recently voted best in Scotland, so you'll be in good hands.

House Rules & Policies

Do you allow dogs?

Yes - we do allow dogs, as long as they are well behaved and follow the dog rules.

Can I smoke or vape inside the Lodge?

No.

Is there a curfew or noise policy and can we play music?

As long as the music stays indoors, nobody can hear a thing.

Do you allow stag/hen parties?

Given the location, this property is not a good destination for raucous parties - and we reserve the right to cancel reservations at any time should this policy be violated.

Can we host a wedding at the lodge?

Small weddings are fine - we've actually had two weddings here already. Please get in touch to discuss details in advance.

Activities & Things to Do

What outdoor activities are there?

We offer both clay pigeon shooting and archery. These are available for purchase as add-ons during checkout - 30 days' notice is preferred, and anything booked with less notice than this can't be guaranteed.

Can we explore the estate?

Yes of course, the whole Lagafater Estate is yours to explore. There are woods to explore, rivers and streams to play in and the moorland to walk around. However, the estate is a working sheep farm, so please be aware that you might be sharing the space, and be sure to keep your dog on a lead.

Please be careful in the woods.
