Getting to Lagafater

One of the joys of Lagafater is its remoteness and seclusion - however this makes getting here a little scary. But never fear, this information will help guide you to the door.

The postcode is DG8 0BA or simply type in Lagafater Lodge.

Please have confidence when driving. Once you cross the bridge at Penwhirn, there is a very long private road that can put people off.

Have courage and continue - it will get you there.

Penwhirn Roadworks

Due to wind farm construction works in the local area, there are a number of important changes to the road accessibility and the approach to Lagafater Lodge. We understand that this is not ideal, and we apologise for any inconvenience it may cause.

PLEASE contact either Andrew or Kirsty before you depart so that we can confirm the correct driving instructions. The image to the right is correct, however they close roads all the time, so please double check with us first.

Sheep Advice

Although our guests and the guest experience is our most important investment, the Estate remains a working sheep farm and therefore we ask our guests to drive carefully along the roads as the sheep do enjoy sitting on the tarmac.

Public Transport

Planes either arrive at Glasgow or Prestwick, both with good rail and bus connections. Trains originate at Glasgow and trundle through the stunningly scenic Ayrshire countryside, before terminating at Stranraer Station - once the UK ferry port to Ireland. From there, taxis are available from the station to the house, a thirty minute drive over the hills - local drivers should know the Lodge, but if in doubt the driving instructions above will get you to the house.
